Why should I attend a Truth in Action presentation – or request one?

Because you know the climate crisis is real and you’re concerned about what it means not just for your future, but for your family’s future. For the world we give to future generations.

You want to know the truth of what’s happening to our climate. But you also want to know what we can do to solve this crisis before it’s too late. You want to know what you personally can do to make a difference.

Who gives Truth in Action presentations?

Climate Reality Leaders are volunteers trained by former US Vice President Al Gore and a team of scientists, strategists and experts to talk about the climate crisis and its solutions.

What makes Climate Reality Leaders such great speakers is that they don’t just understand the climate crisis themselves – they know how to make it easy for anyone to understand too. They know how to give great presentations that engage and inspire and leave audiences energized.

Can I request a Climate Reality Leader presentation outside of Truth in Action?

Absolutely. You can request a Climate Reality Leader presentation for another date using the same links.

Why participate in Truth in Action?

We’re facing a devastating climate crisis that’s already making storms increasingly powerful and frequent, shrinking global water supplies, and helping diseases spread further and faster than ever before. And that’s just for starters.

Now scientists warn that unless we radically reduce fossil fuel emissions by 2030 and reach net zero by 2050, global warming could rise above 1.5 degrees Celsius and unleash a series of irreversible effects transforming life as we know it and opening the door to unprecedented catastrophe.

The good news is that there’s hope. What happens next is up to us. We have the clean energy solutions we need to halt warming in time to avoid the worst, but we have to act bravely and boldly. And we have to act now.

Research suggests that one of the most critical things you can do right now is talk to others about the climate crisis. When we have conversations about the crisis, we shine a light on its importance in our own communities, and make it clear to our friends, families, and neighbors that this is something serious enough to talk about. In this way, we can shift public perception and increase support for taking swift action.

Truth in Action aims to bring the world together to talk about the crisis, friend to friend, neighbor to neighbor, colleague to colleague.

It’s our chance to make 2019 the tipping point on climate action and the year the world got serious about solving the crisis. But we have to start talking about it. Together, as one planet.

How do I attend or request a Truth in Action presentation?

To request a Truth in Action presentation, you’ll first need to create a public account on Reality Hub. Once you’ve signed up, you’ll be able to log in at any time and select the “Help Spread Truth in Action” option on the homepage. From there, you can identify any presentations already scheduled in your area, or select the “Request a Presentation” option, which will take you to the presentation request form.

Once you’ve submitted your request, you’ll receive a confirmation email. As soon as a Climate Reality Leader has claimed your request, they’ll contact you directly through email to coordinate the presentation event.

Why do I need to set up an account?

We’ll send your request to Climate Reality Leaders in your area, and your account allows us to track your request and ensure that it is shared widely with our network.

How much does a presentation cost?

Presentations are entirely free of charge, but we do ask that you provide a venue, time, and audio/visual equipment for presenters to use while sharing their slideshow.

Audio/visual equipment will probably include, at minimum, a projector and screen, but the Climate Reality Leader who claims your request can confirm for you if anything else is needed.

How will I know if my presentation request has been claimed by a Climate Reality Leader?

Once a Climate Reality Leader accepts your request, they’ll contact you at the email you list when you fill out the presentation request form.

I want a local expert! How can I make sure my presenter is from my area?

Great news! Once you submit a presentation request, the information is sent out to Climate Reality Leaders in your area. They’ll review the information, and if they’re available during the day and time you indicate, they’ll then claim the request and get in touch with you at the email address you indicate on the form. How much time do presentations generally take?

Climate Reality Leaders can customize the presentation to the amount of time available, so we ask that you indicate the time when you request the presentation. Generally, presentations vary between 30 minutes and two hours, and the amount of content a presenter can cover will be proportional to the time allotted.

Can Climate Reality Leaders tailor a presentation to my specific audience or group?

    Absolutely.

Climate Reality Leaders have experience presenting to a wide array of audiences, including youth, non-native English speakers, college students, community organizations, and faith groups. If you would like a more specific type of presentation (more interactive, tabling, keynote speaker, etc.), please specify this in your request description. The fulfillment of these requests is dependent on the specialties and availability of Climate Reality.
