    24 HOURS OF REALITY™ :
    LET’S GET REAL

    OCTOBER 29, 2021

Empty promises and corporate greenwashing have allowed the climate crisis to worsen, bringing on extreme weather, from flooding rains to record droughts. Even half-measure commitments have gone unmet, putting us on the short path to a disastrous future.

Our chance to avert the most dramatic temperature increases is rapidly disappearing.  Enough is enough.

Join us for a global day of action to demand our leaders enact the policies required to shift the course of climate change. The time is now, and only now.

ABOUT 24 HOURS OF REALITY: LET’S GET REAL

In August, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called the latest report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) a “code red for humanity.” In November, leaders from around the world will convene to assess how well nations have fulfilled the commitments they’ve made to protect us, and what more must be done to avoid catastrophic consequences for life on this planet.

We’re already experiencing the climate crisis daily, as devastating weather remakes the world as we know it. It’s time to get real. And it starts with us.

We need immediate action, to move quickly toward a zero fossil fuel emissions economy in a globally just transition to clean energy. Our point of no return is nearly here. We have to get loud, now, and together demand the REAL policy changes that can save us from the worst degrees of warming.

Our future is on the line.

Join us on October 29, and make yourself heard.

    PLEDGE TO ACT

This is our turning point on the climate crisis, and I’m part of it. I’ll make myself heard during 24 Hours of Reality on October 29 by demanding real action from leaders who can make a meaningful difference for us all.

    WHAT IS COP 26?

In November, representatives of nearly 200 countries will meet in Glasgow, Scotland for the United Nations’ 26th Conference of Parties (COP 26) to consider the state of the climate crisis. There, they’ll review and can strengthen the Paris Agreement, the international community’s framework for global cooperation on climate action.

WHAT IS 24 HOURS OF REALITY: LET’S GET REAL?

For 24 hours on October 29, former US Vice President Al Gore and Climate Reality Leader activists around the world will lead a global day of action, demanding the real policy change required to cut fossil fuel emissions and transition to a just clean-energy economy. The goal of this day of action is for people around the world - people like you - to join in and make their voices heard. If you care about the climate crisis and haven’t spoken out yet, this is your chance.

    WHAT’S DIFFERENT ABOUT THIS YEAR?

This August, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called the latest report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) a “code red for humanity.” Our window to hold warming to the danger line of 1.5 degrees Celsius and avert the worst of climate change is rapidly closing. If we fail, oceans could rise up to a meter or more by century’s end and warm up to eight times what we’ve seen in recent decades. Even more extreme heatwaves, droughts, fires, and hurricanes will become our new normal.

As we speed toward this unbearable outcome, it’s clearer than ever that the little we’re doing now isn’t enough. We must put real pressure on global leaders headed to COP 26 this November to commit to the real action we need. It’s now or never.

WHAT DOES “REAL ACTION” REALLY MEAN?

Action is only real when it creates real change. At this fall’s UN conference, we’ll be pushing specifically on these critical points, which to date have not been sufficiently addressed:

Concrete plans for actual and immediate reductions of greenhouse gas emissions: Offsets too often prove to be smoke and mirrors: Plans to sink carbon that never happen, funding questionable technologies, often punting today’s very real damage to some place theoretically down the road. We need actual emissions reductions immediately to prevent climate catastrophe. Learn More.

A just transition from coal, gas, and oil to clean energy: In a world with cost-effective, clean, renewable energy there is simply no place for fossil fuels. This means moving from extractive economies to clean energy while investing big in frontline communities and developing truly inclusive workforces. We can shift to cost-effective, job-creating, renewable energy around the world, and we must. Our fight for solutions cannot replicate the inequities of the past. Learn More.

Restorative justice in financing solutions: The choices that affect how climate change shapes our future disproportionately impact people who never got a say. The nations responsible for the climate crisis must address the damage they’ve done. This means honoring commitments now and financing adaptation and zero-carbon development in impacted nations in the years ahead. Learn More.

WHAT DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH ME?

Scientists warn that unless we radically reduce fossil fuel emissions by 2030 and reach net zero by 2050, global warming could rise above 1.5 degrees Celsius and unleash a series of irreversible effects that will upend life as we know it.

If you’re concerned about what that will mean for you, your family, and the world we offer future generations, you want to know what you can do to affect this crisis before it’s too late.

We have the clean energy solutions we need to halt warming in time to avoid the worst, if we act bravely, boldly, and now. It’s never been more important for you to join and share the conversation about climate reality. By declaring its importance and our unwillingness to ignore it, we can build the pressure needed to convince leaders to act.

    It starts with you.
